Easy Waste Free Switches!

Earth Day inspired...

It is without question that community's world wide need to take make the green switch!

It is so easy to fall into the regular consumer routine of buying the easy available over packaged products at the supermarkets, but we need to become more conscious of how much waste we are making.

I'm going to create some space here to share with you guys amazing and simple package free alternatives, along with some great company's that will make these day to day switches easy!

Company's To Follow

1. Lush

This company has the mission of making all cosmetics & body care products by hand, with vegetarian ingredients. They're staunchly against animal testing, and attempt to reduce waste through packaging.

2. Package Free

I stumbled across this store when I was wandering around Williamsburg, NY back in August 2019. The window peaked my interest with its mission statement, "on a mission to make the world less trashy"! All their products are package free, recycled and waste free. Anything from t-shirts to health & beauty to all things day to day.

3. Unwrapped Life

Another great company striving to make you stop before you shop and chose zero plastic & zero waste products! They're passionate about spreading eco-awareness and helping others cut down on common single-use items and excessive packaging waste.

4. Bee's Wrap

By infusing organic cotton with beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin, this female owner created a washable, reusable, and compostable alternative to plastic wrap. Any kind of sustainable food storage can be found here!

Easy Eco-Friendly Alternatives

Reusable Bags

This ones bothers me the most; seeing people grocery shop through single use plastics! Don't get me wrong, I'm not perfect, but the switch to reusable shopping bags, produce bags and reusable silicone sandwich bags makes a huge difference when you think about it. Mesh produce bags can be found almost anywhere these days, mine specifically are from Winners.

Reusable Face Wipes/Makeup Remover

Say good bye to cotton rounds (literally the thousands you can go through in a year). Washable and reusable face wipes for makeup removal are the best way to remove makeup without hurting the environment. Face Halos are a great option. You can find dozens of options for these. My favorite has to be the Take Your Face Off cloths. Don't skip this opportunity to make a huge difference in a daily routine!

Water Bottle & Travel Mug

Come on people, it's 2020, if you don't have a reusable water bottle or travel mug what are you doing! Reusable water bottles speak for themselves on the impact they serve to eliminate single use plastics. Same with travel mugs. All those Starbucks cups, Tim Hortons cups and McDonalds can all be replaced with a travel mug you can use over and over again. Company's actually charge you less if you bring in a reusable mug, so it's a win/win! Do I have to mention reusable straws for all those iced coffees? Hope not.

Reusable Q-Tip

This one seemed odd to me at first when my boyfriend bought me one, but then I thought about how many plastic and cotton Q-Tips I went through in a year. As long as you wash them properly after each use, you're still up keeping with your hygiene while eliminating another wasteful product from a landfill! We got ours from Amazon, but there are plenty of options out there.

Beeswax Wraps

I can thank my boyfriends mom for introducing these to me! A sustainable way to preserve food, without the use of saran wrap or tinfoil or sandwich bags. Any Bed Bath & Beyond will carry these, along with other super markets. They also look way cuter wrapped around something than tinfoil does. Check them out!

No Waste Shampoo & Conditioner

Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash don't have to come in plastic I assure you. Lush first introduced me to this idea! I will say it is difficult for me to find a great shampoo/conditioner that is plastic free without compromising quality, but it is possible. You can swap out so many daily products with zero waste products, like toothpaste tablets. This will be the biggest adjustment to make, but you can easily get used to it!

That's all for now. Of course there are thousands of sustainable, zero waste product options to choose from, but these provided options are easy changes. You have to start somewhere, right! I am in no way an expert on all things eco-friendly, but I do my part to try. I have a goal of eventually owning one of those picture perfect waste free fridges. Help me out too, let's chat about what your favorite eco-friendly products are.

Happy Earth Day,

-Loz
