13 NY Eats & Treats You Need To Try!

As promised in my "Ballin' On A Budget: New York Style" blog post, here is the best, must eat foods we ate on our trip in New York!

We came to New York with the desire to eat the best, unique, affordable foods. Tons of research was done way in advance on what the food options were, and we created a huge list of places we wanted to try. I suggest doing this on any trip you go on! It saves you time & the hassle of doing it while on the trip.

I'm just going to cut to the chase... here are the best places we tried!

1. Broadway Bagel Cafe

This was my FAV breakfast place for bagels (and we tried a bunch). It was the best bang for your buck; $4 for a fluffy bagel of your choice and a list of flavored cream cheeses to pick from. It's worth noting they are not stingy with the cream cheese. They personally had one of my favorite cups of coffee to add to the pros list. Of course, they have every other breakfast food option for you, but their bagels are where its at. ( 2658 Broadway, West Harlem) http://broadwaybagelscafe.com/home/

2. Jin Ramen

This was recommended to us by our Aribnb host and did not disappoint. If you're a ramen fan, give this place a shot. They have so much to choose from, it was almost too hard to decide. It's a small, well decorated plate with good sized portions, affordable too! As it was recommended to us, I will pass that recommendation along to you. (125th ST & Broadway, West Harlem) http://www.jinramen.com/info

3. Artichoke Basille's Pizza

I had originally seen this on a Facebook video to showcase their amazing and best selling artichoke pizza. Looked delicious... and guess what.. it was. Located right beside the High Line and Chelsea Market, this makes for a great pizza stop (they have multiple locations so you can visit anywhere in NY). Dine in or take out, you won't be disappointed! They have a variety of different options that are all unique and delicious. We loved it so much we went back twice during our trip. Great price for a huge slice! https://www.artichokepizza.com/

4. Dominique Ansel's Bakery

Again, another place found from a Facebook video. This place is worth the hype. His famous Cronut is all the rage, and has been ever since it started selling. So much so that line ups begin as early as 7am (we would know, we were there) just to get one. Look through their website and you can easily see why it's so popular. Our experience there was 11/10, from the bakers providing free treats to those waiting in line, to the warm welcome from Dominique himself, to the dainty decor with flower walls, and of course the amazing Cronut. Each month they sell a different flavour; ours was salted caramel pretzel. I could not recommend this place enough, and with multiple locations it's a no brainer! https://www.dominiqueansel.com/our-shops/

5. Baz Bagel

Compared to Broadway Bagel, this location is a little more upscale. Located right in the Little Italy of New York, the fun decor and rainbow bagels are more than inviting. This restaurant has all kinds of unique bagel options, alongside its regular menu of soups, sandwiches & all day breakfast. This place is a tad bit pricier than we had thought, but still on a affordable side. I'd suggest going here if you're looking to spice up one breakfast of the week, but this is not a quick bagel stop. (181 Grand St) https://www.bazbagel.com/menus/

6. Angelo's Coal Oven Pizzeria

If you are a follower of the Barstool Pizza Reviews, you might have heard of this place (we stopped at multiple pizza joints rated on Barstool Pizza Review, I'd suggest checking out for a fun challenge). A block away from the bottom of Central Park, this spot marks a great dinner stop. I would not say it's cheap, but the prices do not break the bank, and the pizza definitely fills the belly. The inside dedicates the walls showcasing all the celebrity's that have dinned there before you, which is a cool touch. Stop by and you won't be disappointed. ( 117 W 57th St, New York ) http://www.angelospizzany.com/

7. Tulcingo

Jumping down to the Queens area now, I needed to try my favorite cuisine: Mexican. Down in the Corona area, it is filled with Mexican cuisine... and coronas. This place was so authentic from the decor, the food and our server's ability to not speak English very well. And it's cheap! My boyfriend and myself ordered an abundant amount of food, but yet, ate it all because it was so good. If you want Mexican and find yourself in Corona, this place won't disappoint. ( 40-36 National St, Corona )

8. DŌ

Moving on to a little treat, this shop will fulfill all your childhood cookie dough needs. Imagine an ice cream parlor, but for cookie dough, and you get this place! With about 20 different flavors, with gluten free and vegan options, this DŌ will calm your sweet tooth. It is right beside New York University & Washington Square Park so it is always busy, and rightfully so. There's a second location in Dumbo, Brooklyn, allowing views of the Brooklyn Bridge. Change up your ice cream date to a cookie dough date. https://www.cookiedonyc.com/

9. Absolute Bagels

This place is no showstopper on the outside, but the bagels on the inside are worth the stop in (and waiting in line, because there usually is one). An affordable price for a bagel of your choice with a dollop of flavored cream cheese.. what more can you want! This shop is definitely worth the hype. They have flavors of cream cheese that most places don't, making them a stand out place. ( 2788 Broadway, New York )

10. Nathan's Famous

If you find yourself wanting a Coney Dog, and you're in the Brooklyn area, there's no other place to go than Coney Island itself! Every restaurant on the strip offers their own take on the famous coney dog, but Nathan's Famous speaks for itself. If you're in the area, jump in line to try it for yourself. (1310 Surf Ave, Brooklyn )

11. Dim Sum Go Go

Heading into China Town, you'll find all the best authentic Chinese food. We spent hours wandering the streets, popping into markets and food stands, looking for a place to eat dinner. There's tons of options, but we landed on Dim Sum Go Go. Of course, authentic, and delicious! If you're looking for dumplings and dim sum this place will give you many options for a great price. ( 5 E Broadway, New York )

12. Vanessa's Dumpling House

Staying on the dumpling topic, if you're in the Williamsburg area (which I'd say is a hidden gem), stop by Vanessa's. Dine in or take out, options are endless & all delicious. The portions are perfect and so are the prices. This place tends to be busy, so you know the locals love it. There is multiple locations in New York to enjoy, so I'd suggest finding one near you. https://vanessas.com/

13. Martha's Country Bakery

Staying in Williamsburg, you'll find the cutest bakery stop that let's you dine in their fancy restaurant or take out. The options for desserts are endless; cheesecake, cookies, pastry's, cakes... so on. We grabbed a slice of cheesecake and a NY famous black and white cookie. We tried plenty of B&W cookies to find the best one and Martha served up the best one. This was the biggest, thickest B&W cookie for a decent price. Give it a try! https://marthascountrybakery.com/

14. Wu Nussbaum

This place offers it all from bagels to dumplings. Anything you try you are guaranteed to enjoy. It presents a chic and clean decor to invite you in, with a large menu to keep you intrigued. Another B&W cookie was tried here! A win. This place is located in Harlem, Manhattan, near Colombia University. https://www.wunussbaum.com/
